Janice Benjamin and Laura Goldsmid in front of some of our food stock

Janice Benjamin has been volunteering at the Centre for more than four years and says the work has been very varied. “I’ve been on the front desk dealing with callers, doing the clients’ laundry, sorting the clothes store, packing food parcels and now I’m archiving old records.”

The best thing about volunteering, she says, is the satisfaction of helping someone, adding: “It’s better than spending my time with ladies who lunch!” She recalls helping a young woman find suitable clothes for a job interview and was delighted when she got the job.

Laura Goldsmid is a recent volunteer. During the lockdown, she missed the companionship of a work place and wanted to do something to help others. She says volunteering at the Centre is enriching.

"Whatever your age or skills, you can meet and help amazing people."
